Marine Biologist and Royal Caribbean Group Partner to Release Film After Sailing UK’s South Coast

Eight films will explore how communities are coming together to protect the marine environment

MIAMI – SEPT. 29, 2023 – The first film in a series looking at ocean conservation in the UK will be released tomorrow by Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) partner and award-winning marine biologist, former commando, broadcaster and travel writer Monty Halls, after a two-month expedition around the southwest of England concluded. The company’s steadfast determination to innovate and energize communities is driven by its SEA the Future commitment to sustain the planet, energize communities, and accelerate innovation.

The project titled “Generation Sea Change,” involved Monty and his family sailing around the south coast of the United Kingdom meeting with students, volunteers and charity organizations, which are tackling the challenges faced by coastal communities.

“At Royal Caribbean Group we have a decades-long commitment to ocean conservation that began with our Save the Waves program and expanded to SEA the Future,” said Elizabeth Hackley, director, environmental programs, Royal Caribbean Group. “I am proud that we have partnered with Monty to tell the stories of local communities who are doing so much to protect our marine environment. We are passionate about innovating and energizing communities and I’m sure this project will help inspire the next generation of biologists and ocean conservationists.”

After meeting with hundreds of volunteers and filming thousands of hours of footage, Monty will release eight films over the coming months on his YouTube channel about his journey and the organizations and projects he encountered. The first film, titled “Spin Cycles and Life Cycles,” is now live.

“The last two months have taken me around the beautiful coast of the UK meeting the most inspiring people doing the most incredible things to preserve our oceans,” said Monty Halls, leader of Generation Sea Change. “I am incredibly excited to be launching our first hero film on microplastics. Royal Caribbean Group's support was critical to bringing this project to life and demonstrates the imperative of working together as we explore solutions to protect the health and vibrancy of our oceans."

Royal Caribbean Group’s sustainability journey began over 30 years ago, and it has remained steadfast in its commitment to innovate, and advance, the solutions necessary for a more sustainable future.
